EX-MINI CHAMPIONS STEP UP TO CLIO CUP
Former Mini Miglia and Mini Seven Championship winning team SpeedEquipe Motorsport is stepping up to the ELF Clio Renaultsport UK Cup for the 2003 season.
The team will field two ex-Tim Sugden Motorsport cars during its debut year in the category one for former Mini Miglia and Mini Seven Champion Ian Curley (Marden, Kent), who won three championships with SpeedEquipe, and another for former Mini and Ford Fiesta competitor Rob Cullum (Bristol).
During the last 10 years the outfit has secured numerous race wins, pole positions and fastest laps and SpeedEquipe Motorsport team manager Dave Older is confident that, given time, they can replicate such success in the highly competitive ELF Clio Renaultsport UK Cup.
Older, who has extensive experience in front-wheel drive saloon car preparation and engineering coupled with recent involvement in Formula 3, says the team is looking forward to its first taste of action in the Clio Cup and hopes that both Curley and Cullum will soon be battling for podium finishes.
He commented: The whole team is looking forward to the season as the Clio Cup gives us the chance to do something different and learn a lot more. Ian Curley and Rob Cullum are very experienced front wheel drive saloon car drivers they are both quick and can certainly race too.
If the team can get the rest of the job done then there is no reason why we can't start the season running in the top 10. Then it's just a matter of how long it takes us to work out what needs to be done to run at the front. Once you can do that consistently then challenging for race wins is always a possibility.
