Formula Renault UK and the ELF Clio Renaultsport UK Cup have been officially confirmed as the main support to the sole UK round of the DTM German Touring Car Masters event at Donington Park in July.
Both championships will feature on the package as double-header races with the meeting expected to attract the country’s biggest motorsport crowd of the year outside the British Grand Prix and the London Champ Car Trophy race at Brands Hatch, the latter also forming an integral part of Renault’s 2003 motorsport calendar.
Renault UK’s Director Press and PR, Tim Jackson, commented: “The confirmation of Formula Renault UK and the ELF Clio Renaultsport UK Cup as the main support races on the DTM package at Donington Park in July is fantastic news.
“Along with supporting the London Champ Car race, the British Touring Car Championship and British Formula 3, this announcement only strengthens what is unquestionably our best ever calendar of events. With the exception of the British Grand Prix, the Renault championships will be supporting the two biggest races in the UK this year and will be seen by a huge live audience.”
Confirmation of the slot on the DTM bill is a major coup for Renault and teams from both Formula Renault and the ELF Clio Renaultsport UK Cup are delighted to be a part of the event. Leicestershire-based Clio Cup team owner/driver Julian Griffin (Fleckney) believes the DTM support slot will be one of the true highlights of the season.
He said: “It’s great news for the teams, drivers and, perhaps most importantly, the sponsors that this meeting has been confirmed as it will undoubtedly be a fantastic event. If it’s anything like previous years the DTM meeting will attract one of the biggest crowds of the year – I’m really looking forward to it.”
The opening rounds of the 2003 Formula Renault UK Championship and the ELF Clio Renaultsport UK Cup take place this weekend, April 19th and 20th, at Snetterton in Norfolk as support to the British Formula 3 and British GT Championships.
A total of 18 cars will line-up for the opening two rounds of the 2003 ELF Clio Renaultsport UK Cup at Snetterton in Norfolk this weekend, April 19th and 20th, as support to the British Formula 3 and British GT Championships.
