Crack ELF Renault Hill House Hammond Clio Cup team Total Control Racing has confirmed its first two driver signings ahead of the 2004 season with a third driver expected to be announced within the next few weeks.
The Wednesbury-based outfit, which guided Irish star Jonathan Fildes to the 2003 Clio Cup title in his debut season, has signed exciting 19-year old Scottish prospect Jonathan Adam (Kirkcaldy) to partner 38-year old Nick Adcock (Bromyard, Hertfordshire) who made his debut in the championship last year, finishing eighth overall in the driver standings.
Adam, who stepped up from a successful karting career into single-seater car racing in 2003, contested a handful of Formula Renault UK Championship rounds last year with Team DFR. He has now decided, however, to make the switch to the ELF Renault Hill House Hammond Clio Cup which, from recent testing, looks to be a wise choice.
Commenting on his driver signings, TCR’s Lee Brookes said: “We’ve been absolutely delighted with Jonathan in testing and from what we’ve seen he’s really up for the championship. At Donington Park he matched the kind of times Jonathan Fildes (reigning Clio Cup Champion) and Jason Templeman produced when they raced with us.
“He listens to advice and he puts it all into practice out on the circuit so we’re confident he’s going to be a major surprise this season. Nick being back with us is also great news for the team and the championship. He had some very strong showings during his debut Clio Cup season and he looks like he’ll be a podium regular this year.”
Speaking ahead of his debut in the ELF Renault Hill House Hammond Clio Cup, Jonathan Adam said: “My first test, last November, went really well and the budget for Clio Cup suits where we’re at right now so I’ve put my single-seater aspirations on hold in the hope I can do well this year and maybe open up some doors to touring car racing.
“The Clio suits my driving style, it’s great fun to drive, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed we can have a good year. I’m definitely with the right team. Everyone at TCR is so professional and with more testing under my belt I’m confident of some good success.”
