Former category race-winner Henry Taylor (Battle, East Sussex) has agreed a deal with Sheffield-based Team Gatecrasher to return to the ELF/BTE Lawline Renault Clio Cup at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit, Kent, this weekend (24th/25th April) – his addition to the championship boosting the grid to 23 cars.
The 24-year old will partner Team Gatecrasher boss Steven Hunter (Coal Aston, Dronfield) for the rest of the year and is expected to be a genuine title contender. Having won four races in the championship in 2000, he then went on to race in ASCAR and took three podiums during last season’s British GT Championship.
Speaking on his return to the Clio Cup, Taylor said: “It’s good to be back in the championship and it’ll be great to be with a team like Gatecrasher. It should be a fantastic season and I’m sure my experience from GT racing and ASCAR since I last raced in the Clio Cup will all help me out on circuit. I’m confident we’ll be able to fight at the front from the off.”
Team Gatecrasher boss Hunter added: “It’s impressive for us to have signed a deal with Henry to contest the championship and to have two cars at the sharp end will be fantastic for the team in general. Henry’s a proven race winner and even though he missed the opening rounds at Thruxton I’m sure he’ll be a genuine contender for the championship.”
Taylor’s first outing in his Team Gatecrasher car will be during the official pre-race test session at Brands Hatch on Friday, 23rd April. Qualifying and the third round of the ELF/BTE Lawline Renault Clio Cup will take place on Saturday, 24th April, with round four on Sunday, 25th April.
