GRINSELL TO RUN PRIVATEER CLIO AT DONINGTON
Phil Grinsell (Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands) will make his competitive ELF/BTE Lawline Renault Clio Cup debut during the season finale at Donington Park in less than two week’s time, after announcing he’ll enter the meeting as a privateer with a view to also contesting November’s Winter Cup.
The 42-year old, who has previously competed in Radicals and in 2002 and 2003 finished runner-up in the MG-ZR Championship, is finally able to make his long awaited Renault Clio Cup race debut after being forced earlier in the year to put his racing plans on hold due to work commitments.
“When I tested the car at Donington things didn’t go too badly and the idea of taking part in the final two races is just to go out there and enjoy myself really”, commented Grinsell. “We did hope to take part in the whole season but, unfortunately, I’ve had far too many work commitments, meaning I haven’t been in a position to spend the necessary time away.
“Now things have settled down somewhat I’m hopeful we’ll be able to contest the Winter Cup as well. It’ll be quite a challenge being on track against the championship regulars but I’m just intending to enjoy myself and lay some solid foundations ahead of the winter.”
Grinsell’s registration brings the ELF/BTE Lawline Renault Clio Cup grid up to 22 cars for the final two rounds of the championship, which take place at Donington Park, Leicestershire, on 25th/26th September.
